Changing the world one blog at a time
Posted by erikaraia
A lot of times we are asked to brainstorm ideas for clients on how to use their blog to attract visitors to their website and although being creative is the favorite part of my day it always amazes me to see social media being used to help others in the world. Blogging can truly be used to inspire, inform, educate, entertain, motivate, instigate…you name it and someone is probably blogging about it.
We have all seen in the news what has gone on with Egypt and how Twitter and Facebook were used to communicate and rally people behind their cause. They used something most of us take for granted:social media.
To most, social media is a place to have fun, talk about your families, promote your businesses, make plans with your friends and share your life with others. And, all of that is great, I personally feel so blessed to be able to share my life with friends and family all over the country. I get to be a part of people’s lives that I would normally speak with once a year at college or family reunions. So, I do treasure it but I don’t think anyone including the people who created it believed it would change the world socially, politically and professionally for millions of people around the world. Or, did they? I don’t know I guess that is a Mark Zuckerberg question but seriously its impact is amazing and I love being a part of it and being able to use social media to learn about the world and all of its happenings.
Today, tragedy struck Japan with the most powerful earthquake to ever hit there. Nuclear plants have been destroyed, lives have been lost and homes and buildings completely demolished. It is a tragedy and my prayers and thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this catastrophic event. Coverage has been non-stop to live blogging, Twitter updates, Facebook posts from news sources and individuals. We stand by as people and watch and listen and read because we want to know and we care.
